The visitor writes in their language and gets an answer in that language, even when the source document is in another. The search works across languages because questions and passages are compared by meaning, not by words. The widget interface itself comes in nine languages.
Which languages does the assistant answer in?
- In the language the visitor writes in. A question in Italian gets an Italian answer.
- The widget interface, meaning buttons, placeholders and the privacy note, is available in German, French, Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Japanese and Chinese.
- Set the default language for the widget in the settings; it decides the interface language before the visitor writes anything.
Does the content have to be translated first?
- No. Questions and passages are turned into vectors that represent meaning, so a French question finds the matching German passage.
- The language model then writes the answer in the visitor's language from that passage.
- The sources cited under the answer are still the original documents, in their original language.
What if the content exists in several languages?
- Import every language version you have. A passage in the visitor's language is the most precise match.
- Keep the versions consistent. If the German price list is newer than the French one, visitors in French get the old prices.
- If a page exists in only one language, it still answers questions in all the others.
Can I see which languages visitors write in?
- The dashboard shows the languages visitors wrote in.
- It is a quick way to learn whether a language version of your website is missing.
